Step 2 – Stop Eating Late or Anytime Near Bedtime

Your gut has as many nerves as your brain and requires the same 8 hours of sleep each day. The up to 6 hours it takes your gut to process food and recover means stopping eating 6 hours before sleep so the gut gets a full 8 hours of sleep. This can be hard for some, so remember, stopping 2 hours before sleep is good, 4 hours is better, and 6 hours is best.

Eating late causes your gut’s nervous system to get half the recovery it needs.
  • The same meal, eaten at 10 pm instead of 6 pm, yields 30% higher blood markers of metabolic conditions.
  • The sleep-deprived gut can’t regenerate its all-important lining, leading to leaky gut.
  • Leaky gut is a primary driver of systemic inflammation, which in turn drives metabolic conditions.
